Looking Sideways: 10 Things
This week: Liz Clark on the podcast, a fantastic series of mixes from Floating Points, and the issue with Liquid Death's incessant marketing-over-product focus.
1. I’ve got legendary surfer and sailor Captain Liz Clark on the podcast this week, a conversation I enjoyed very much. To promote it, here’s a lengthy Note I posted about it the other day.
Also, is anybody on Notes? Noise me up on there if so.
2. Mark Ritson pointing out that, when it comes to Liquid Death, beloved brand of LinkedIn clout-chasers everywhere, the Emperor is at least partially naked, is worth a read.
3. Helen Lewis’s Atlantic piece on Biden’s withdrawal is basically ’Thank fook he’s gone’. And you know what, I’m here for that.
4. This BBC documentary on the history of westerns, ‘the genre that refused to due’ is really brilliant. The Beeb is just so good at this stuff, which is usually buried deep on the BBC Sounds app.
5. One for the UK ‘heads - Floating Points’ Artist in Residence Series, also on BBC Sounds, is absolutely fantastic.

6. My pals at Sidetracked have a swanky new Gestalten book out! Publisher and friend-of-the-show John Summerton is writing me a forthcoming blog about ten years of this most influential of mags, but in the meantime find out more about the book and order your copy here.
7. Love this - friend-of-the-show Neftalie Williams heads to the Paris Olympics as ‘Ambassador of Skateboarding’. Listen to my episode with Neftalie here.
8. Timothee Chamalet playing New York-era Dylan? I could not be more in.
9. New podcast alert! Friend-of-the-show Trevor Graves is in the chair for this new podcast from his agency Nemo Design. First guest: Todd Richards. Watch it above.
10. Another podcast worth sharing - my
co-founder Jojo White is on the Boardwomen podcast! As ever, let me know which of these you enjoyed, or just say hello using the button below.
