Looking Sideways: 10 Things
Here are this week's things I thought were worth sharing.
1. The Joy of Friendship, my latest episode with Ewan Wallace: snowboarder, musician and one of my oldest and dearest friends. We don’t see each other that often any more, so this one was a chance to sit down with an old friend and ruminate on our shared experiences, and our lives up to this point. I’ve been heartened by the response to this one - after all, is there anything better than catching up with an old friend after time has passed, and picking up exactly where you left off? 6. Nick Hayes’ Book of Trespass is causing me to view the over-familiar British landscape with fresh eyes, although I can see why some people have found it a little polemical for their taste. 7. Congratulations to the team from Full Circle Everest, who recently became the first all-Black team to summit Everest. More here.
8. Newtok is yet another important film from Patagonia. It’s an exploration of the plight of villagers from Alaska’s Yup’ik community as they fight to safeguard their way of life in the face of the climate disaster. Watch it above
9. In my recent piece for Wired Magazine about the drone broadcasting tech behind Natural Selection, I speculated that we’d soon see this being rolled out across other sports. How timely, then, that Natural Selection have announced a partnership with Proving Grounds to do just that in mountain biking. Find out more above.
