1. I was really chuffed that Looking Sideways was featured in this Longreads round-up of the best pieces on the future of snowsports alongside ‘proper’ legacy media such as GQ, the FT and the Economist.
I’ve always considered Looking Sideways a full media platform, rather than ‘just’ a podcast, so this recognition was really gratifying. (And I pay for the stories I post, so if you have an idea then please let me know using the button below 😎).
2. Rest in peace Steve Albini, surely one of the most titanic and influential musical figures of the last 50 years. His production credits include Slint, Nirvana, the Pixies, PJ Harvey and Jon Spencer; and his letter to Nirvana (above), on how he’d approach producing In Utero, is a masterclass in artistic integrity.
3. Congrats to everybody involved in the new Read and Destroy book! I’ve been lucky enough to have a bit of a sneak preview of this and can confirm it’s bloody amazing.
I also know how hard everybody involved has worked to get this project this far, and I’m hoping to chat to Dan and Wig about the entire project for a forthcoming episode of the podcast. In the meantime, pre-order your copy here.
4. I mean, I voted Remain, and I found Rufus Wainwright tenuously connecting Brexit to the failure of his West End musical to be completely nauseating in classic none self-aware-luvvie fashion.
5. If you’ve been enjoying the various podcast and newsletter discussions on our ‘transactional’ relationship with nature, you’ll probably find this latest piece from Re-Action pretty thought-provoking.
6. Season three of Db’s Pack Heavy Chase Light series is here, this time with Mia Brookes in the hotseat.
7. What happened when George Monbiot met his town’s biggest conspiracy theorist? This pretty awkward article.
8. Wavemakers, an annual residential retreat organised by friend-of-the-show Linzi Hawkins, is inviting applicants for this year’s (fully funded) residential program. More here.
9. The program is coming together for Elements, the Sidetracked x Kudhva festival taking place this June. More here.
10. Finally - I’m still not really sure what Substack’s Notes feature is supposed to be. So I thought I’d post a few nice clips from my early morning dog walks with Peg while I’m over here in Normandy. Like this one above. On Notes? Hit me up and let’s have a chat.

Yeah that Wainwright piece. Sheesh. BUT! Can't rule out it being a Guardian spin on the story too. Either way though, it did remind me of that insufferable artist in Mr Turner whose annoyed at the world because no one can see his genius.
