1. HUGE thanks to the great Jeremy Jones for being this week’s Open Thread guest. Jeremy spent three days answering listener and reader questions, and the resulting thread is a treasure trove of insight on the themes of activism, environmentalism, snowboarding and running a brand.
Click here to catch up - and congratulation to paid subscriber Chris Collicott who wins a brand spanking new Jones board for best question from a paid subscriber courtesy of my friends at The Snowboard Asylum.
2. I’m honoured to once again be on the Selection Committee for this years Natural Selection Tour. Still can’t quite believe I get to geek out with the finest minds in snowboarding and call it work.
3. Natural Selection also just released full details of this year’s tour, as well as a new 24 teaser edit. Watch it above.
4. I enjoyed listening to Jack Johnson interviewed by Rick Rubin on the latter’s Tetragrammaton podcast.
5. I don’t have anything insightful to say about Israel/Gaza, so I haven’t posted anything about it, other than to share a couple of links in recent 10 Things newsletters. So I found myself agreeing with a lot of this New York Times piece.
6. This New Yorker story about a group of Soviet cross-country skiers going missing in mysterious circumstances back in the 50s is a brilliant read.
7. Why did so many migrating birds die in one night after hitting one Chicago building? The Smithsonian investigates here.
8. I belatedly discovered this entertaining Oi Polloi piece about the history of the Paraboot Michael. Yes, that is Eric Cantona wearing said boots. Read it here.
9. This Atmos piece on Killers of the Flower Moon is great (spoilers).
10. November is looking busy: I’m running some mentoring sessions; interviewing friend-of-the-show Tom Kay at the Finisterre store in London to celebrate 20 years of the brand; hosting a q&a and a live podcast at the Kendal Mountain Festival; and hosting some interviews and workshops as part of my media partner duties at the London Surf Film Festival. Got an event you want me to speak at? Hit me up!
Got a story or link you think might work for my weekly Ten Things, which goes out to many thousands of readers each week? Let me know! Enjoyed this dispatch?
Coming to my first LSFF this year. See you then!
