Shepard Fairey and the OBEY team recently completed a huge mural piece, based on the ‘Rise Above Rebel’ artwork, on a 14 story building in Paris. The work is part of an initiative called Street Art 13 by the Mairie du 13eme Arrondissement to regenerate the area by offering public spaces for artists to work. Organised by Mehdi from Galerie Itinerrance and Butterfly, it is Fairey’s 2nd biggest, and tallest, public piece ever.

Shepard Fairey Obey – Rise Above Rebel – Paris, Juin 2012 – 93 av Jeanne d’Arc 13e

Fairey chose the ‘Rise Above Rebel’ image for the piece as it represents an archetype of someone who’s endured oppression but persevered and risen above it. The mural is at 93 Rue Jeanne d’Arc, 75013 Paris – near the ‘National’ Metro stop – so go check it out if you’re in Paris.
