What was it?

Updating the tired branded product giveaway (sticker and t-shirt toss) that is the default attempt to engage the on-the-ground audience at any event. At Boardmasters, an event with a huge footfall and a demographic crying out for inspiration, we decided to engage the onsite audience with something truly creative and inspirational.

We worked with six artists to create a unique branded sticker art pack, which we handed out to festival-goers from our Vans X LS hub during the week of Boardmasters

How did we do it?

The idea was to encourage them to create their own art and show poster, and then use these masterpieces as the basis for a competition both at and after the event. The enormous popularity of this concept saw us attracting huge queues of people each day.

Creative highlights

This concept generated a huge level of engagement among festival goers and the online community, with 60% of sticker packs handed out on site returned in person as unique, beautiful posters. A quick straw poll revealed many were spending around two hours on the project.

Coverage highlights

After the event, we took the finished masterpieces to Facebook and let the crowd choose the winner in the form of a public vote – 15,000 interactions later, we had a winner. In the traditional PR sphere, the concept was as ever picked up by the surf and action sports press.
